TradingView Review

As a long-time trader and investor, I can confidently say TradingView is the best platform for chart analysis and stock screening. I have tested many trading platforms over the years and I’m impressed 30 million people use this tool – although I’m sure many are using the free version.

The real question is: does TradingView deliver enough value for the cost? Through my years of use, I believe it does. Let me walk you through my review of every feature and function that makes this platform so good.

I’ll show you how to get the most out of the free version and I’ll reveal how to get premium subscriptions for up to 50% off. I’ve used both the free and paid versions so I know how to help you get your money’s worth.

What is TradingView?

More than 60 million people trade on TradingView’s charting platform. Technical analysis is where the platform shines with advanced charting tools, indicators, and real-time market data. Originally focused on stocks and ETFs, the platform has grown to include cryptocurrency markets and support multiple trading styles.

TradingView goes beyond charting with a paper trading environment to practice risk-free with simulated funds. Traders get access to fundamental data including financial statements, SEC filings, and balance sheets. Direct trading is enabled through broker integrations within the platform. From newbies to experienced traders, TradingView’s features and real-time market data are a great addition to the trading toolbox.

Features

You won’t find anything like TradingView anywhere else. The Basic plan gives you the basics for free to get started, but the Essential, Plus, or Premium plans give you what you really need as a serious trader. You’ll have access to multi-time-frame charts, custom time intervals, and real-time market movement. When you need to export data or use advanced chart types these plans deliver. Your market data will expand with extended hours (pre-market and after-hours market) and you can build custom scanners to match your exact strategy.

Charts

With TradingView, you can use various chart styles, timeframes, indicators, volume analysis tools, and customizable drawing tools.

The Basic subscription gives you access to one chart, Premium gives you 8 charts per screen. Premium allows you to analyze different symbols, timeframes, and technical setups in a synced view, including multi-time-frame charting.

When you subscribe to the paid Essentials plan, you get data export capabilities and custom intervals from 1 minute to monthly charts. Premium members get even more granular control with second-based time intervals. You also unlock direct trading through broker integrations so you can trade from your charts. However, the number of supported brokers is limited and especially in the stock trading field more light than extensive.

If you want to take your trading to the next level, consider TradingView Desktop for much better performance and multi-monitor support. You can have multiple trading desktops across multiple monitors, each with its own set of charts and layouts. Imagine having 6 different trading desktops across 6 monitors, each for a specific analysis or market.

Trading Indicators and Strategies

With TradingView, you’ll have an entire arsenal of trading indicators at your fingertips, far more than any other technical analysis platform. You’ll have the classics – Moving Averages and VWAP – and advanced tools like Volume Profile for depth analysis.

tradingview indicators

Your technical toolbox includes pattern recognition for candlestick formations and automatic plotting of Fibonacci extensions and retracements through trendline analysis. Not happy with what’s built-in? You can create your own custom indicators using TradingView’s proprietary language and have unlimited possibilities to develop your edge.

Fundamental Data on Charts

If you analyze stocks, you can overlay fundamental data metrics right onto your charts. Your analysis can include key financials – whether you’re looking at gross profit trends, revenue growth, or EPS estimates and dividend yields. By putting those fundamental data points on the stock chart you’ll see the relationship between price action and hundreds of important statistics. This integration will give you insight into how the market reacts to earnings and corporate announcements and bring your fundamental and technical analysis together in one view.

Screeners

You can screen stock, forex, and crypto by performance metrics, valuation ratios, dividend data, margin calculations, income statements, balance sheet components, and oscillator readings.

You also have the flexibility to use various timeframes for scanning, which include intraday intervals (1m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1h, 2h, 4h), daily, weekly and monthly timeframes. In addition, you can filter your results, set up custom alerts, and export to CSV for further analysis.

Heatmaps

Stock and crypto heatmaps are super useful for finding the biggest movers in the market. These visual tools allow you to see the winners and losers across your chosen markets instantly and color-coded.

You can refine your heatmap to specific time intervals – want to see what’s moved the most in the last 4 hours? You’ve got that.

When you need to drill down you can filter by various financial metrics. Screen by market cap, daily trading volume, employee count, or dividend yields to match your trading strategy. Beyond price movement, you can see gap moves (e.g. opening gap distances), volatility spikes, and relative volume comparisons all in one view.

TradingView Pricing

You can start with the free Basic plan registration at no cost and scale up to Essential at $14.95, Plus at $29.95, or go all-in with Premium at $59.95 on the monthly payments. Monly plans have the benefit that you can quickly cancel the subscription.

If you want to maximize your savings, consider annual subscriptions. You’ll pay $155.40 for Essential, $299.40 for Plus, or $599.40 for Premium yearly. By committing annually, you’ll swipe a 16% discount off monthly rates – essentially getting two months of TradingView trading tools at no cost. Sure, this only makes sense if you want to use TradingView for that many months.

Data Feeds, News and Market Data

You’ll get free real-time data on TradingView where exchange regulations allow. But you should know that exchanges require monthly fees for real-time tick data, and only provide free delayed data, or only parts of the real-time data feed.

Let’s take US stock data as an example: your TradingView subscription includes free real-time data from the Cboe BZX Exchange (formerly BATS), which covers about 10% of US market activity. In many cases, especially if you only trade higher time frames like the daily time frame, then that’s absolutely okay.

If you want to see every trade, every tick, and every transaction, you can add a real-time market data feed subscription for a low price. As a day trader, you should consider it.

Conclusion

TradingView is a top-notch charting platform with great technical analysis capabilities. You get a lot of value through many proprietary features, a solid free plan, and fair pricing for the paid plans. Here’s a pro tip: try the free trial of your desired paid plan, and then look for the TradingView promo in your inbox when the trial is about to end. This way you can frequently save 25%, and during some promotion times even more (if there is no discount offer until 5 days before the end of the free trial period, cancel the plan and then await the discount offer).
